Gamers.Net
Gamers.Net is the next evolution of one of New Zealand and Australia's leading game networks Skankyflat.net. But people ask, what is the history of Skankyflat.Net before Gamers.Net came into existence?
Is Skankyflat some form or pr0n0 house? No sorry, nothing so visually appealing unfortunately (actually the thought of some of the occupants nude.... shudder) the Skankyflat had auspicious beginnings in 2001 in a little flat in Greenlane in Auckland. Three gamers were living in what they termed the 'skankyflat', a nice little unit that was as messy as usual (hey it was three guys) and filled with cables, computers, junk food and gaming!
A friend of the gamers dropped in and advised that he'd like to put a server up on the innahweb and could they help. And they did, and they also decided it'd be kind of cool to create a community that was run by gamers for gamers. There was jetstreamgames, and nzgames, but there was nothing for a small niche community of UT gamers.
So forum software was purchased and Skankyflat.net purchased and voila.. we had the makings of a community. We were also instrumental in helping with the World Famous JafaLans (you have NEVER seen so many V bottles in one event trust me!). Basically gaming was our life, and Skankyflat was the vessel in which we concentrated our discussions on.
Skankyflat.net grew from strength to strength. Since day dot, we have offered free hosting to clans, free forums to clans and involvement with both servers and competitions. We were heavily associated with Jetstream Games and in 2004 we decided that a merger was in order. We merged the communities of Jetstream Games and Skankyflat.net and took over the management of the Jetstream Games forums and servers from Skavin. We ran it as a hobby and the gamers enjoyed what was one of the best online services in New Zealand.
Jetstream Games was a vibrant community with many characters and servers for people to play on. Like all big corporates it was eventually restructed in 2006 to produce the new Xtra Gaming realm. At this time there was no space for us to continue in the new regime as the work was outsourced.
So Skankyflat.net was back! We decided just to return the forums to the people and run it as an aside to our business which was web and application development, network support services and hosting services. We kept on getting asked about whether we'd be able to provide game servers for people, with us saying we didn't have the resource atm.
But it was always something ticking at the back of our head.. that this is what we wanted to be doing, providing gaming servers for clans and also public servers for people to play on. So a couple of months ago we decided to invest in a few big servers, and voila.. Skankyflat Gaming Servers were born. And on October 1st 2006, we launched SGS, providing a full featured Gaming Service for New Zealanders, providing gaming, voice and hosting services for NZ gamers.
Since the auspicious reintroduction of Skankyflat.net, we have been constantly striving to develop the next level of Gaming servcies for Australia and New Zealand. With the contacts in the industry, gamers.net.nz and gamers.co.nz were acquired, and Skankyflat.Net was relaunched as Gamers.Net. This is just the beginning ...
Gamers, by gamers for gamers. New Zealand and Australia's best gaming service, Gamers.Net.
